The Remit

Our client, a well known PR agency was hit by a manual penalty action due to previous link building activities.

Aggressive national growth via SEO was achieved but boundaries were pushed in the pre Penguin days of 2011/2012.

Our remit was to regain all rankings and increase the visibility above and beyond where they were in October 2012 and ghen actively manage the link profile to ensure they stay on the right side of Google’s SEO guidelines

The Methodology

We are considered global experts at Google penalty recovery and as such, we have a defined process on how we approach this type of work

  1. We gather all link data – Search console, Majestic, Ahrefs, Moz, old link reports – anything we can get our hands on.
  2. We then recrawl each and every link to see what is still live and then we assign a risk score to each domain
  3. Once we have a list of potentially “bad domains” we manually audit each and every one of them. Whilst this adds a lot more time, we see it as an essential part of the process and really helps us to understand the profile
  4. Once we have completed the manual audit we outreach to all webmasters to try and get the links removed.
  5. We then prepare a disavow file and submit this to Google via the search console. interface.
  6. The final stage is to negotiate with Google to lift the manual penalty, We need to prove what we have done and show that we have repented!
